Dr. Jessica Brown’s research program aims to bridge the gap between basic science and practical application to improve the microbial safety and quality of foods. She is interested in utilizing a combination of culture- and molecular-based microbiological techniques to study the dynamics of microbial contamination and ecology within food production and processing systems. More specifically, she is interested in investigating, developing, and validating post-harvest intervention strategies to prevent and/or reduce the presence of pathogens. Additionally, in her role as Food Safety Extension Specialist, Dr. Brown aims to serve as a liaison between academia, government, and industry by facilitating the transfer of scientific information through food safety workshops, publications, and individual communications.
