Undergraduate Scholarships

Scholarships for First-Year and Transfer Admitted Students:

From October 1, 2025, through February 1, 2026, first-year and transfer admitted students can submit the supplemental Scholarship Application in MyRED. We encourage you to submit the application as early as possible. Once you have submitted the application, you can return and update your information at any time prior to the deadline.

Undergraduate Departmental Scholarships:

The supplemental Scholarship Application is your key to maximizing your consideration for departmental scholarships as well as leadership and service scholarships. The supplemental Scholarship Application opens October 1, 2025 in the "Financial Aid" tab in MyRED for admitted first-year students.

To be considered for these additional scholarships, you must be admitted and submit your supplemental Scholarship Application in MyRED by February 1, 2026. Once you have submitted your application, you can return and update your information at any time prior to the deadline. We encourage you to apply as early as possible and carefully craft your submission.

As a student in Food Science and Technology, you are eligible to receive scholarships from a variety of sources including our department, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Institute of Food Technologists and other, outside organizations, companies, and foundations.

The Department of Food Science and Technology awards over $70,000 in scholarships to undergraduates each year. Students at all levels are eligible for department scholarships. Department scholarship applications for new students are available at the end of this page.

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a professional organization for food scientists, awards over 100 scholarships ranging from $1000 to $2500 to undergraduate students each year. Many of our students receive these scholarships. Apply online through their website.

Food Science students are eligible for more than $630,000 in scholarships from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR).  New applicants are automatically considered for CASNR scholarships at the time of admission.

Each year the University of Nebraska-Lincoln awards millions of dollars in scholarships. New students applying for admission prior to January 15 are automatically considered for most scholarships. Some leadership and diversity scholarships require additional applications available online.

Members of the University Honors Program are awarded a scholarship to help cover the cost of textbooks. This program requires a special application. Early notification applications are due November 1. The final application deadline is March 15, 2024. Information about the Honors Program is available online at honors.unl.edu.
