Internships for Undergrads

Students are strongly encouraged to pursue internship opportunities during one or more summers in the Food Science and Technology program.  Internships are available with a variety of companies in research and development, quality assurance, processing operations, food safety, sensory evaluation and other areas of the food industry.

For students, internships are the best way to explore career options within the food industry.  Most internships are a paid, full-time job for a period of 8-12 weeks in the summer.  Interns often live in a new city, working with experienced professionals in a technical center, food processing facility or company headquarters.  Internships provide students with valuable experiences helpful in assessing and defining career goals, expectations and preferences before seeking their first post-graduation position.

For employers, many internships are an opportunity to test-drive potential candidates for future career positions.  Many former interns are offered full-time positions with the companies at which they interned.  Occasionally, an outstanding intern will be encouraged to continue working in his or her internship part-time upon returning to school.
